Project News:
GRAND CABLE has achieved a significant milestone by securing a major power cable supply project under the Bahamas’ “Reconstruction with Resilience in the Energy Sector” initiative. As a key supplier for the Abaco Island grid enhancement project, GRAND CABLE will provide 15KV and 34.5KV medium-voltage power cables manufactured in full compliance with stringent U.S. standards (IEEE & ICEA). This partnership represents not only a commercial success but also a demonstration of Chinese expertise contributing to global energy infrastructure and climate resilience.
The Bahamas, an island nation in the West Indies, faces common challenges shared by many island-based power systems: isolated grids, aging infrastructure, and vulnerability to extreme weather events such as hurricanes. Led by the Ministry of Energy and Transport, the national utility company — Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) — is implementing an ambitious modernization and resilience program to build a more reliable, efficient, and storm-resistant energy network.
In this context, the medium-voltage cables supplied by GRAND CABLE will serve as the “arteries” and “nerves” of this enhanced grid. They will be deployed across Abaco Island to replace or upgrade outdated lines previously damaged by hurricanes. Adherence to IEEE and ICEA standards ensures that our cables meet the most demanding performance requirements — including electrical conductivity, insulation integrity, thermal resistance, and mechanical durability — enabling long-term, reliable operation under the harsh marine climate characterized by high temperature, humidity, and salt spray.
This project marks another key milestone in GRAND CABLE’s strategy of “high-quality global engagement.” It reinforces the idea that “Made in China” is no longer just synonymous with cost-effectiveness, but also represents technical excellence, standardization, and reliability. We are honored to contribute to the Bahamas’ energy recovery and sustainable development, and we look forward to working with BPL and all project stakeholders to help power a brighter, more resilient future for the people of the Bahamas.
