GRAND CABLE has recently secured a conductor supply order for a project in the Republic of the Congo, providing 117 mm² Almelec aluminum-alloy conductors for a 30kV distribution network project. The project's ultimate owner is Société Nationale d'Électricité (SNE), the national power utility of the Congo, and forms an important part of the country's public distribution grid upgrade and rehabilitation.

The Republic of the Congo's power infrastructure dates back to the 1970s. Constrained by technology and funding, early grid coverage remained limited, and power supply capacity was chronically insufficient. In the 2000s, with increased government focus on infrastructure and international support, the national grid expanded to cover most of the country. However, the national electricity access rate still stands at less than one‑third, with a significant urban‑rural divide — approximately 40% in urban areas compared to only 10% in rural areas. In 2024, the Congo signed a loan agreement with the World Bank to officially launch the Power Sector Improvement Project, with key components including transmission grid reinforcement, distribution network expansion and upgrading, and medium‑ and low‑voltage line extension.

The 30kV distribution network is the core medium‑voltage level in the country's power system, primarily responsible for delivering electricity from high‑voltage transmission to end‑users. Almelec conductors are a standard material for medium‑ and high‑voltage overhead lines across French‑speaking African countries, and have been widely adopted in distribution projects in the Congo and neighbouring nations. The 117 mm² cross‑section is a typical configuration for 30kV voltage levels, balancing current‑carrying capacity with mechanical strength.

GRAND CABLE will manufacture the conductors in accordance with French standards and applicable project technical specifications, ensuring timely delivery to the project site in the Republic of the Congo via the port of Pointe‑Noire.
