Zimbabwe Power Equipment Procurement Project - Cables and Conductors Supply

GRAND CABLE has recently received a letter of credit from the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC), valued at several million US dollars. Under the LC arrangement, GRAND CABLE will supply a diverse range of power cables and bare conductors for the construction and maintenance of Zimbabwe's national power grid.

ZETDC is a core subsidiary of ZESA Holdings, the national power utility of Zimbabwe, responsible for electricity transmission, distribution, and grid planning and maintenance across the country, serving over one million customers nationwide. In recent years, Zimbabwe has faced persistent power supply shortages. Ageing equipment at the Hwange thermal power station has constrained actual generation capacity, while drought conditions have significantly reduced output from the Kariba hydroelectric plant. Widespread load‑shedding has adversely affected economic output and daily life. To address the power shortfall, the Zimbabwean government and ZETDC are accelerating grid upgrades and rehabilitation, while actively encouraging private sector participation in energy infrastructure development.

The products to be supplied by GRAND CABLE include low‑voltage power cables and various types of bare conductors, to be deployed across different scenarios within Zimbabwe's distribution network — ranging from urban distribution systems to long‑distance overhead transmission lines, covering the full spectrum from low‑voltage distribution to medium‑ and high‑voltage transmission.

ZETDC has recently undertaken several positive initiatives in grid operations. In early 2026, in collaboration with Longshine Technology, ZETDC launched a unified national electricity billing and operations management system, marking a key step forward in Zimbabwe's energy modernization efforts. Concurrently, ZETDC's smart meter installation programme has helped recover 20% of legacy debt, improving the company's cash flow position and further supporting procurement and construction needs for grid infrastructure.

This marks GRAND CABLE's first formal order in the Zimbabwean market after several years of bidding attempts, representing a significant breakthrough in the Southern African market. GRAND CABLE has extensive supply experience in the African power sector, having previously provided cables and conductors for transmission and distribution projects in multiple African countries. This order further expands the company's business footprint across the African continent.
