Recently, Grand Cable's participation in the supply of the Kole substation busbar for the UETCL 132 kV substation general contracting project in Uganda was successful once. This marks a solid first step towards the operation and delivery of the Uganda project after three years of struggle, laying a good beginning for the comprehensive completion and operation of the project.
The UETCL 132 kV substation general contracting project in Uganda was tendered in 2019 by a JV consortium composed of CEEC & AVIC INTL, awarded in 2020. This project was the first World Bank financing project obtained by CEEC through international bidding, and it was also the largest power transmission and transformation project in Uganda at that time.
The project will construct a total of four 132 kV substations in Kole, Gulu, Nebbi, and Arua, four major towns in northern Uganda. After completion, the northern region of Uganda will be connected to the national backbone power grid for the first time, which is of great significance for improving local people's livelihoods and promoting local economic development. At the project commencement ceremony, Ugandan President Museveni personally visited the site and gave important instructions, demonstrating the importance and expectations of the project throughout Uganda.
